While school buses are designed to be highly visible, the students themselves are often overlooked. NHTSA emphasizes that children boarding and exiting buses are among the most vulnerable.


Actionable Steps:

• Encourage kids to look left-right-left before crossing streets

• Avoid distractions like headphones or mobile devices near traffic

• Use well-lit paths and sidewalks whenever possible

• Teach children not to push or shove near traffic areas

• Pair visibility tools like reflective gear and LED lights with awareness training


A visible bus is not enough. Every child must be clearly seen and alert. Proper pedestrian awareness can prevent accidents before the bus even arrives.
