The most dangerous time for school bus riders is during loading and unloading, especially in the early morning and late afternoon hours when visibility is low.

Most fatal school bus-related incidents occur in the 10 feet around the bus — not on board.

Darkness, weather, and distracted drivers all contribute to morning and afternoon risks. Lighting systems that create visible paths can help drivers and students avoid accidents during these high-risk windows.
