Summer is a great time to train students in pedestrian and bus safety before school resumes. NHTSA reminds us that school buses are highly visible, but children waiting at stops are not always.


Actionable Steps:

• Walk your child along their bus route or pickup spot to identify hazards

• Teach kids to stand well back from the curb

• Encourage bright clothing and reflective gear even during sunny months

• Practice device-free crossings: no phones, headphones, or distractions

• Make well-lit or open-area routes the default for walking
