Q: What is the safest distance for a student at a bus stop?

A: NHTSA and state guidelines suggest students should stand at least 6 feet away from the curb until the bus comes to a complete stop, the lights are flashing, and the door opens.

Tip: Standing back and being highly visible—reflective gear or small LED lights—reduces the risk of accidents near the bus.
