Congress Alludes to Gardian Angel in School Bus Safety Hearing

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday July 25, 2019, during the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit hearing titled “Examining the Federal Role in Improving School Bus Safety”, Honorable Congresswoman Carol Miller representative for West Virginia's 3rd congressional district, asked witness Ms. Kristin Poland, Ph. D., Deputy Director at the Office of Highway Safety for the National Transportation Safety Board about noticing a trend in the amount of off-the-bus accidents at night. Preceding her question Ms. Miller stated, “In Charleston, West Virginia, one of our school districts held a demonstration on a new safety lighting system that illuminates the paths students take to the bus in the dark. “Ms. Miller continued, “It’s been extremely helpful to the students and other drivers on the road.”

What is the Gardian Angel school bus lighting system?

Founder and Inventor, Steve Gardner and his son Andrew Gardner from Toledo, Ohio have worked tirelessly for the last 9 years proving their bus parts and accumulating credibility among leading transportation officials and committees across the U.S. The positive effect of proactively combating stop arm violations by the Gardian Angel® has already been tested, proven, and documented by school transportation industry leaders across the Nation. The Gardner’s have received the honor of having the LED lighting system currently available as optional equipment to school buses in the following 22 states: Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.  Gardian Angel® is specifically listed in manuals such as North Carolina’s School Transportation Fleet Manual and is also endorsed by the Michigan Association for Pupil Transportation.

Gardian Angel® is an exterior lighting system that easily attaches to a school bus that delivers the most advanced technologies to combat stop arm violations and minimizes the public safety risks to students who rely upon school transportation.  This approved option also raises the bar for the current state construction standards as well as exceeds the current Federal Standards.  This school bus safety feature is meant to reduce the rates of illegally passing incidents, as well as to help the driver see better in dark, decrease the unloading and loading zone injures and/or fatalities, and aids in the prevention of possible collisions and school bus accidents.

With the Gardian Angel®, drivers can clearly see the students in darkness.  The pedestrians have a lit path walking towards the bus and traffic in front of bus and behind the bus can clearly see pedestrians walking towards the school bus in darkness.  This is all possible because of the 1,000 lumen white LED flood light which shines out the side of the front of the bus. The safety feature is aimed at the ground, automatically turns on when the red lights are activated, and turn off when the entrance door of the bus is closed.

In Conclusion

Here at Gardian Angel, LLC we are thrilled that Congress has taken note of what we are doing. In addition, members of Congress are also seeing the positive results that the Gardian Angel school bus lighting system brings to the table. It brings us great pleasure that Gardian Angel can tackle the issue of illegal passing, keep students safer by illuminating them in darkness, and be heard by influential members of Congress which has the power to make the necessary Federal changes in safety in which the school bus industry so desperately needs in order to thrive. We are excited for Congress to come back from their recess, and even more interested to see what else is in store for us.

What do you think Congress will do now that they alluded to the Gardian Angel?
