School Bus Safety Week is almost here, and the question every district, parent, and bus driver should ask is: Are your students truly visible?

NHTSA confirms that buses themselves are highly visible with flashing red lights, stop arms, and mirrors. But the most critical factor in safety is whether students are seen while waiting at the bus stop or walking to school.

Key Prep Steps Before Safety Week:

1. Visibility First: Bright clothing, reflective backpacks, and reflective stickers on lunchboxes.

2. Route Safety Checks: Ensure pathways are clear, well-lit, and free of obstacles.

3. Teach Awareness: Students should stop at the curb, look left-right-left, and avoid distractions.

4. Technology Matters: Gardian Angel lighting systems enhance visibility around the bus and boarding area, reducing risk during early morning or late afternoon commutes.

Tip: Share this checklist with drivers, parents, and students to make the first week of October a visibility audit week, creating momentum heading into Safety Week.
