How to Reduce School Bus Stop Risks Before Any Report Arrives

Every day, thousands of children step off school buses into potential danger. Waiting for federal or state reports to guide safety measures can put students at risk.

The most effective first step is high visibility. Not, just for school buses, but rather for the students boarding the school bus. We pose the question, Are the children SEEN? Ensure the most precious cargo is visible for the issue isn't the bus. NHTSA already tells us that the school bus is quite visible. "School buses are designed so that they’re highly visible and include safety features such as flashing red lights, cross-view mirrors and stop-sign arms". So the real issue you should be considering is are your students highly visible? If not, or you are even questioning this, consider the Gardian Angel school bus safety lighting system and protect your students today.

Combine visibility with simple safety procedures and student training, and districts see immediate improvements. These strategies are recommended by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) School Bus Safety Guide, 2022–2024, and by the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS) annual surveys.

Acting now ensures children are safer today without waiting for new regulations or reports.
