The Fourth of July may be over, but summer hazards continue. NHTSA reminds us that school buses are highly visible, but students waiting for or walking to buses often are not.
Actionable Tips for Parents:
• Reintroduce routines after the holiday: walk routes, pick-up/drop-off routines
• Use bright clothing, reflective vests, or small LED lights for early mornings or evenings
• Remind children to stay behind the curb and watch for traffic
• Ensure children understand flashing red and yellow bus signals
• Encourage device-free crossings and practice proper pedestrian safety at stops
Visibility is your first defense. Your children need to be seen before the bus, not just by the bus.
